Can anyone tell me why a program that I know is running doesn't show up in the Windows Task Manager under the processes tab? If I run pslist in a dos window, the program shows up there and I can terminate it using pskill.

China's Serious Environment Problem China's economic progress comes at the expense of the environment. The industry economy grows quickly; but pollution becomes more serious. Unfortunately, the great majority of people here are insensitive to the pollution.
China is imitating the West's high pattern of consumerism. Chinese hope per a people owning private car and Motorcycle, living big and big house. Consuming large power source as Western nations do. The Chinese government is making effort to realize this aim.“human congestion, cars screeching and high rise flats going up.this Is political achievement". China is producing large cars and motorcycles, large cement and brick.Exploiting large coal mines and oil field, large ore mines. Building large multi-story buildings and huge highway construction patterns. Enlarging blindly more and more area of cities and towns land. Large areas of land are damaged by the exploitation of natural resources.
Car and motorcycle traffic is increasing greatly. The population in China is multitudinous (1.4-billion) is five times as the population of the US. China is short of cultivated land. In spite of this case, the Chinese government is developing the private car industry greatly. New highway construction will take up large areas of land. Traffic accidents increased greatly. In 2003 200,000 people died in traffic accidents in China.
Building development is in mass confusion. Building technique is primitive and building construction is consuming large amounts of materials. In 2003 China poured 44% of the world's cement. Building a house will consume more amounts of cement brick and decorative colorful brick in China than The Western Nation. But these houses make little use of insulation letting heat flow out in the winter and letting the heat in during the hot summer months. House repairs are more difficult, too. We Chinese are concerned about the beauty of own houses very much, but aren't so concerned about environment surrounding the house. We spend large money on our own houses, but are stingy in the cost of the protecting the environment.
Garbage removal is primitive. Chinese don't know Garbage classification. Waste in plastic bags is visible everywhere. The Chinese people like to use plastic bags and batteries just once and then throw them away. The Chinese government pays great attention to the beauty of cities. They devote large sums of money on the structural image of the city, but pay little attention to garbage classification. Large amounts of garbage is made by large consumption.
Rivers are polluted by chemical fertilizer, pesticide, herbicides, chemical synthetic detergent(washing powders), industrial waste water, human excrement and urine, and garbage. Waste water, excrement and urine flow directly into rivers without any sanitation practices. Most river water in China is unsuitable for drinking. Many Chinese are harmed by drinking water from polluted rivers.
Education in protecting environment is blank. People's understanding and concept of protecting the environment is quite low. China's people are poor, but they are not frugal. Chinese are concerned about their own health but don't care about environmental health. They like to inject and swallow more medicines and eat more wild animals, but they don't realize that the polluted food, water and air is threatening their health greatly.
China is short of cultivated land. The actual situation demands that China doesn't imitate the West's high consumption. China should develop electronic information consumption. Should develop economizing energy industries. If not, the Chinese would ruin their own environment and, further more, affect the global environment. In short, the Chinese populous simply doesn't realize that pollution is their most dangerous enemy.

World com Enron Freddie/Fannie Madoff white water Savings and loan Martha Stewart The list goes on and on and you can add to the list.
My point, what exactly is the function of the SEC? Seems this branch of oversight is without eyes or on the take? Will we learn during the Madoff case that the sec was actually involved allowing this ponzi scheme to exist and covering it up? How can so much in such a short time frmae be so messed up at such a huge dollar amount without the sec knowing something? I say either people go to jail or we abolish the SEC and save a few bucks?

Today Israel committed mass murder again and you have the same old people defending Israel's evil. Lawmage:
Lets see...The Palestinians shoot rockets and mortars from Gaza into Israel with the intent of killing any Jew who happens to be there when they land. Israel shoots back at those launching the rockets and mortars and CassielA tells us they are committing mass murder and deception is in their DNA...is there anyone here who still takes CassilA seriously or as anything other than an antisemite? First of all every thinking and aware person who is fair minded asks themselves why are the Palestinians firing rockets into Israel, answer Lawmage the Palestinians land was taken from based upon some mythical diabolical lie.
It is true that the Palestinians shoot rockets and mortars from Gaza into Israel with the intent of killing any Jew who happens to be there when they land. This is wrong in my view because all human life is scared but I think the Palestinians fire the rockets into Israel in the hope that the world will one day do the right thing and sort out this terrible problem in the holy land.
I could have said a lot worse than deception is in Jews DNA,I probably should not have said that but I like millions of people all over the world are angry and frustrated at Israel being able to get away with mass murder, murdering the Palestinians in the full knowledge that the west will do nothing more than pay lip service.
Lawmage:
is there anyone here who still takes CassilA is there anyone here who still takes CassilA seriously or as anything other than an antisemite or as anything other than an antisemite
People take me as seriously as they take you Lawmage.what people like me find interesting is how people like you can support a people that are supposedly gods chosen people and you say you don't believe in god.Lawmage you don't have to answer that because we know your type wants to bring in the new world order at the behest of your mates in Israel the masters of the universe.
Lawmage can I give you some advice calling people like me an antisemite is foolish and is really funny, you might as well call me a child molester, because that would be funny to and untrue. The real antisemites are the Jews that have been praying on the Jewish race giving bad and wrong leadership manipulating the Jewish race into doing the wrong things like murdering Jesus.
Lawmage unlike you I do believe in god and as I have told you before you cannot believe in god and hate Jews but what some people know is that some Jews have used the lords name in vain to do all manner of evil like persecuting and denying gods prophets, these Jews have been promised a very painful punishment
Revelation, chapter 3 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

This isn't really about either the play or the movie--although they enter into it. But I've seen neither.
I met a former gym mom at a store the other day. Once she recognized me, she was eager to tell me about our daughters' former gymnastics coach--a man. It seems, she said, that a 'very young girl,' and her family, accused the coach of 'improper touching' of their daughter. Another set of parents said the same thing about the coach and their daughter.
Now, a "very young" girl to be coached by an accredited USGA coach is at least 5-6 yrs old and is usually coached by an accredited sub-coach. If the child shows talent, he/she is advenced to the head coach for training into a team.
But here's where doubt comes in.
Gym mom's are worse than soccer mom's. Gym mom's not only take their kids to practice, they also take their kids to the doctor for growth plate ankle fractures and spinal stress fractures. Mainly, they're back-biting and highly competitive. They'll do whatever they can to advance their child--which is, I'm sure, normal for parents who see possible future national recognition and/or full college scholarships for their kids.
What happens to the coach? First of all, he knows he can't fight it. All a child has to do is accuse. The coach's life is ruined. In this case, the coach lost his accredidation and his gym. He is barred from ever working with young children again.
I told Ellie about it, since she'd trained with the coach for about 6 yrs. without a problem. He spotted her, corrected her form, touched her body, and yelled a lot, but she never had any 'problem' with him.
Parents are very sensitive to pedophilia--as they should be. They believe their children first--as they should.
But how many coaches', teachers', priests' lives have been ruined because a child says, "He touched me, Mom?"

Australia has a plan to save the children by implementing an ISP level filtering system that blocks child pornography, X-rated and violent material. The effort, which is being lead by Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy, has caused a great deal of controversy as they're now discussing using the system to filter peer to peer and bitTorrent networks as well.
The Minister claims he is following complaints closely, even going so far as to set up a temporary blog, but following and addressing such complaints are two different things. Both the Australian government and the media have been pretty quiet about the great internet filter and many Aussie's don't even know the program exists. People who are aware of it rightfully believe it will go down as one of the most ill conceived plans ever introduced by the government. The Australian Communications and Media Authority ran several trials and found that the filters were inaccurate and caused speed problems, among other things. Further, in an open letter to the Minister, SAGE-AU(System Administrators Guild of Australia) states that the internet filters will block at least 1 out of every 12 legitimate websites and that it will decrease the internet speeds up to nearly 90%. You can read more on why internet filtering is a horrible idea here: http://tinyurl.com/6vnaqw
The technology used to filter bitTorrent networks is obviously not proven. Blizzard uses torrents to distribute their World of Warcraft patches, so it will be interesting to see if the company slaps Australia with a lawsuit for messing with their revenue stream.
It's obvious that the Australian government is rather indifferent to the concept of freedom of speech and it's sad and disturbing to see a supposedly "free" and democratic nation go to such lengths to control the content on the internet. Hopefully it will turn out to be an epic fail and other nations don't start following their example.

On 12-19-08, three Russian naval ships docked in Havana, Cuba. Cuban President Raul Castro met on Monday with Russian Vice Admiral Vladimir Koraliov. The destroyer Admiral Chabanenko and two support vessels are part of a larger Latin American tour which has made stops in Venezuela and Nicaragua. This is the first time the Russian navy have sailed through the Panama Canal since WWII.
Despite Venezuela and Nicaragua being less than allies of the US right now and US Cuban relations not being the best either, US officials say they do not view Russia's maneuvers as a military threat. It may well be a bit of posturing though. the US is conducting various actions in parts of Europe and the Black Sea that Russia's considers it's turf. So, OK, Russia cruises the Gulf of Mexico.
Russian and Cuban officials say the meeting are "in an environment of friendship ... that characterizes relations between the people, governments and armed forces" [of Cuba and Russia]. I can see that as well. Russia and Cuba have been allies with quite a history between them.

Ok, this story is two years old and wasn't picked up by the national media, but the family just filed suit against the police department and I think it deserves to be reviewed.
http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2008/12/galveston_false_arrest.php
It was a little before 8 at night when the breaker went out at Emily Milburn's home in Galveston. She was busy preparing her children for school the next day, so she asked her 12-year-old daughter, Dymond, to pop outside and turn the switch back on. As Dymond headed toward the breaker, a blue van drove up and three men jumped out rushing toward her. One of them grabbed her saying, "You're a prostitute. You're coming with me."
Dymond grabbed onto a tree and started screaming, "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy." One of the men covered her mouth. Two of the men beat her about the face and throat.
As it turned out, the three men were plain-clothed Galveston police officers who had been called to the area regarding three white prostitutes soliciting a white man and a black drug dealer.
The police in question were told to look for three white prostitutes in an area several blocks away. Her father came out and apparently attacked the men who were attacking his daughter (who is black) that was clinging to a tree. This poor girl, an honor student, was hospitalized. Three weeks later she was arrested at her school for assault on a police officer.
While I find it absolutely incredible that the District Attorneys office decided to file charges against this girl and her father, I find the comments from the officers' lawyer even more stunning.
He states: "It’s unfortunate that sometimes police officers have to use force against people who are using force against them. And the evidence will show that both these folks violated the law and forcefully resisted arrest,"
I understand the guy's a lawyer and is there to defend those officers, but who really buys that nonsense? These officers wrongfully attacked a 12 year old child in her own front yard and instead of letting the issue go with an apology, they decided to make an ass out of the city and still press charges against her and her father.
I have a rather low opinion of law enforcement and prosecutors in this country. I think they're forever over-stepping their bounds and are rarely held accountable for their actions.
I suppose such is life in the police state we live in. And it truly is a police state. Both those officers and the father are extremely lucky the father wasn't armed, because if I looked out my window and saw three men trying to abduct my 12 year old daughter, I most certainly would have barged out there with guns ablaze.

President Bush has been busy these last weeks of his presidency... revising history, creating a legacy... and a few miscellaneous midnight regulations.. they all do it, ya know... let's look...
Health Care- Cutting back Medicaid: Allowing healthcare workers to refuse procedures for moral or religious reasons: Revising the rules for international drug trials: Narrowing the definition of combat related disability: Allowing states to set premiums and higher co-payments:
Labor- Making it harder to take paid time off: Allowing truck drivers to work 14 hour days: Requiring labor unions to file extensive financial reports: Making it harder to regulate toxic substances on the job: Stripping collective bargaining rights from federal employees: Relaxing rules on investment advisers conflicts of interest: Revising H-2A visa rules to lower wages and encourage exploitation:
Environment- Allowing mining near the Grand Canyon: Allowing federal agencies to discount global warming when assessing risks to endangered species: Weakening the Endangered Species Act: Eliminating environmental reviews of fishing regulations: Allowing more emissions from power plants: Opening protected wilderness areas to energy development: Letting factory farms voluntarily decide if they need permits to discharge waste into waterways: Altering the definition of solid waste: Allowing snowmobiles in Yellowstone: Allowing coal companies to dump dirt and rock into streams:
Civil Liberties- Allowing guns in national parks: Broadening law enforcements monitoring abilities: Issuing final rules to implement the REAL ID Act:
Taxes- Significantly reducing corporate taxes:
Administration- Protecting political appointees by shifting them to permanent posts:
~wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/bush-sprint-finish/#ab
A few of these will be easy to overturn through executive measures, most will not... many of these are being signed in spite of vast opposition (both sides)...
Jan 20th cannot come fast enough...

watch out for the buts...
"In a first, a declaration “seeking to decriminalize homosexuality won the support of 66 countries in the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.” The United States did not support the nonbinding measure, joining the ranks of Russia, China, the Roman Catholic Church, and members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The official American position was based on highly technical legal grounds. The text, by using terminology like “without distinction of any kind,” was too broad because it might be interpreted as an attempt by the federal government to override states’ rights on issues like gay marriage, American diplomats and legal experts said. “We are opposed to any discrimination, legally or politically, but the nature of our federal system prevents us from undertaking commitments and engagements where federal authorities don’t have jurisdiction,” said Alejandro D. Wolff, the deputy permanent representative. " New York Times
So, the US has joined the ranks of Russia, China, the Roman Catholic Church, and members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference as far as HUman Rights are concerned for homosexuals. (I don't like that company)
The American position claims that human rights are dependent upon state jurisdiction. In the age old American conflict between states' right and Federal rights.. is it ever appropriate for human rights to be subjected to the majority vote, or state jurisdiction? That didn't work out so well with civil rights.. is the discrimination against people of color somehow inherently different than the discrimination against people of different sexual orientation?

Are there any acoustic guitar players here? I play bluegrass mostly, or try to, and have been wondering if anyone else is a guitar player in here. I also like to buy old beat up guitars at estate sales and garage sales and repair them if they are repairable. I've been playing somewhere around 9 months, have had 6 beginner lessons...which went too slow, and the rest I've learned on my own. I bought a steel stringed Taylor dreadnought which is India rosewood with a sitka spruce top, and I had the factory-installed tusq nut replaced with ox bone by a professional luthier, and I made saddle from a piece of elephant ivory which I bought on the internet.
I'm also wondering if anyone here subscribes to Flatpicking Magazine's website, which allows it's members to download guitar music/tabs in the pdf form. The music stores in my area do not carry very much in the way of quality sheet and tab guitar music, and instructional CD's and DVD's. If you get anything recent, you have to order it off the web.
I put this here in the technology folder because owning and playing guitars is really a technical thing in many respects, especially electric guitars and or electrified acoustic guitars. But even plain old acoustics often require a specialist (called a luthier) to repair or set up an instrument so it will sound properly when played. Guitars usually do not come from the factory ready to play, mine certainly did not. I changed strings on it at least 25 or 30 times before I discovered there was a problem with the way the guitar was set up...or not set up.
